On the eve of Fallingwater’s 75th anniversary, Bob Sendall of All in Good Taste Productions is calm and collected as he prepares for this month’s celebration of an American architectural masterpiece. “It’s silly how many people in our area have never been to Fallingwater — I have yet to see anything more impressive,” Sendall says. For the past year, Sendall and Lynda Waggoner, Fallingwater’s director and vice president of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, have been brainstorming and planning a whimsical event to celebrate the history and continuing importance of Frank Lloyd Wright’s famous design.
The “Art in Nature” themed event, sponsored by Huntington Bank, with honorary chairs Lord and Lady Palumbo, takes place on September 17. Guests will have cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at the main house, followed by dinner in the meadow, and dessert back at the house — all created and prepared by Sendall and his team. “We’re really going to have fun with the menu,” Sendall says. “We’re doing a local lamb, quail, pumpkin soup, a lot of recipes from the Fallingwater Cookbook.” He says that local farmers around Fallingwater have been specially growing and preparing ingredients for him and the fun, fall menu. And as mouth-watering as the menu sounds, we’re anticipating the entertainment even more. Dancers from Bodiography, floating masterfully through the woods lining the path from the home to the meadow, will mesmerize guests as they settle in for the grand finale: An electronic light-and-sound show, presented by multimedia artists Luftwerk. It’s sure to leave the 300 guests in attendance enchanted by Frank Lloyd Wright’s masterful design and the artists’ interpretation of the architecture in light and sound. “This is going to be an over-the-top event, but not in a lavish way,” Sendall says. “From the dancers, to the food, music, and table arrangements, everything will be artful and tasteful.
