Beer and Chocolate Bliss

Samuel Adams Chocolate Chili Bock is made with roasted chocolate and caramel malts with a hint of cinnamon and chili, which “brings out the flavors of the chocolate,” says Bevilacqua. The crisp, salty chocolate-covered pretzel is a great match with the roasted malt flavors of any bock-style beer, such as The Vixen.

Oh yes, we did pair some of the best beers in existence with every girl’s favorite indulgence, chocolate. No, this isn’t some kind of plot conspired by beer-loving gents everywhere to take back Valentine’s Day. This winning duet is a match made in tastebud heaven. Bill Sarris of Sarris Candies and Tera Bevilacqua, Beer Librarian at Bocktown Beer and Grill, helped us in our quest to chocolate-beer bliss. We’re pairing decadent cordial cherries with an equally indulgent beer, Lindeman’s Kriek Belgian Cherry Lambic, perfect “because it is sweet, sour, and reminiscent of cherry champagne,” says Bevilacqua.

There’s nothing quite like the combination of salty and sweet, and this pairing of Sarris Milk Chocolate Salted Caramels and New Holland Brewing Company’s Dragons Milk is top notch! The beer, “aged in oak bourbon barrels, has just enough sweet from its caramel malt and just enough zing from its bourbon edge, to be a perfect sip before or after a bite” of this confection.

“Blue Point Blueberry Ale is brewed with almost a half-ton of fresh blueberries,” and it’s the perfect match with Sarris coconut clusters. The balance of flavors is so unforgettable, it inspired Bevilacqua to experiment with a coconut, blueberry, and chocolate beer mixture for the Infuser at Bocktown Beer and Grill!
