Rock out on the South Side!
After a day of soaking up the summer sun, take in plenty of culture at the Fifth Annual weekend celebration SouthSide Works Exposed. The event, July 10-12, is jam-packed with free music, local art, and other activities. “There will be tons going on,” says director of marketing Pamelyn McMahon. “It’s for ages 2 to 82.” Occurring in and around the heart of the SouthSide Works’ Town Square, events include kids’ yoga in the Kids’ Corner, a drag queen show, local break dancers, a chalk muralist competition, sidewalk sales, and live performances including one by West Virginia rockers Green Eggs. And, of course, the entire family (including pets) can enjoy the unique, eclectic atmosphere and delicious food that define the SouthSide Works. Study at La Roche College
It may be summer vacation, but La Roche College is refusing to take a break. A small, green, and easily walkable campus located just outside the city in the North Hills, the college hosts Visit LRC, a tour and more for prospective students and their families. Though registration is not required for the July 19 event, it is recommended because the day is structured to allow incoming freshmen the chance to tour the campus and residence halls, have lunch in the cafeteria, and talk to current students and faculty. While students test life at La Roche, parents can talk money matters with the financial office. Visit LRC is a helpful tool in the college-choice decision. “Prospective students definitely get a flavor of what the campus is like … it is definitely a catalyst for their decision,” says director of public relations Pam Wigley. For more information, call La Roche College at 412.536.1300, or visit laroche.edu.
