Couture Coiffure
Find an updo that best suits you.
By Nicole Barley | Photography by Megan Wylie
A hairstyle that makes you feel your most beautiful is a very big deal on the big day. We surveyed these eight stylists and they revealed that an updo — from an intricately curled coif to a smooth, sleek style — takes about two-and-a-half hours. These stylists also say that scheduling a pre-wedding styling consultation and making sure to set aside enough time on the day-of for your salon visit is a definite hair do, too!

REAL WEDDING
Amy Craven & Kevin Kocka
Photography by Weddings by Heather
This picture-perfect bride had her hair styled at the spa at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, the site of the wedding and reception. Amy’s “old Hollywood glamour look” was inspired by a hairstyle Katherine Heigl wore to the Golden Globe Awards!
“I’d been planning my wedding since about 10 years old,” laughs Amy, who had some help from Trends to Traditions’ Katherine Shaw in designing the romantic “enchanted forest” décor of her wedding and reception.

Salon Vivace

Model: Erica Greco
TIP! Make sure to schedule time for make-up, too! The base of Greco’s natural makeup is airbrushed foundation, “a must for brides,” says general manager Cathleen Fetsko.

TIP! Stephen Graham, owner of eikön hair lounge, bills Ali’s updo as “elegant, timeless.” Ask for “a classic design constructed of sculpted barrel curls.”

TIP! Along with a headband worthy of Gossip Girl, this look is “a little sexier, a little more modern,” says Komen.

Salon Richards

TIP! Sobota says, “It’s is a soft, textured style with defined curls. It’s classic.”

Sognatoré Salon

TIP! A “natural, but styled” look is achieved by “loosely placing curls, and laying them in places as if they fell that way,” explains Williams.

L’azur Salon & Spa
Hair and Makeup by Bethany Castelli
Model: Alexandra Bruce
TIP! Castelli achieves this “1950s kind of style” by sweeping the bride’s bangs across her forehead and pinning silk flowers at the nape of her neck. “It’s very elegant, yet fun and sexy.”

Azemi Salons
Hair by Dritan Azemi
Makeup by Shannon Davis
Model: Nicole Salopek
TIP! When selecting a wedding day hairstyle, Azemi advises brides “never do something that’s in fashion now. Something that is classic and chic will last forever.”
