What’s New, Pussycat?

Get fit – the right bra fit, that is, at the Pussycat with Gail Gross and her mom, Sally Moses, who are celebrating 39 years in Squirrel Hill this month. This season’s racy, lacy demi bras and beribboned boy shorts are a departure from the Danskin exercise wear that the store carried when it first opened. The first bras the Pussycat ever carried — Huit-brand bras that came in egg-shaped containers — are still represented in the shop’s well-tailored mix of practical and sexy lingerie. Tattoo You

Love tattoos but can’t commit? Show your love for ink art on your UGG boots, gloves, and scarves; November 20, Littles Super Shoe Store hosts its second annual UGG Tattoo Event with Chicago-based tattoo artist Brett Buffurine. Buy any UGG design and Buffurine will personally ink it for you. Justin Sigal, manager of Littles, suggests arriving early, though; this is an extremely popular event that draws lots of fans of the Australian shearlings. Plus, Littles hosts a cornucopia of trunk shows: November 1-2 shop the every-occasion Ecco and sporty shoes from Keen, November 7-8 meet designer Mollie Munro, specializing in hard-to-find sizes and widths for professional women, November 8, try on Cole Haan’s sleek styles. November 22, slip into Johnston and Murphy’s tailored, handsome oxfords and boots for him. Littles Super Shoe Store, 5850 Forbes Ave., Squirrel Hill, 412.521.3530. —L.H.

Blue Note
Be the first in the city to shop Polo by Ralph Lauren, now exclusive in Pittsburgh to Charles Spiegel for Men. Men’s store owner Charles Spiegel himself recommends the canvas suiting, handmade in Italy and starting at $1,395. Luxe sportswear includes dress shirts from $155 and neckwear from $100. “This is not the Polo line in department stores. High-end Polo has not been represented in Pittsburgh in years,” Spiegel says. “It fits in well with my mix here; it’s not ‘traditional-traditional,’ and it’s got an edge to it. That’s what I like about it.” Charles Spiegel for Men, 5841 Forbes Ave., Squirrel Hill. 412.421.9311. —L.H.

Art:

Color Me Beautiful

The brilliant swirling colors of Hessam Abrishami’s paintings have won over many a Western Pennsylvania art lover. This month, the Iranian-born artist will visit Pittsburgh for the first time: Maser Galleries hosts a Meet the Artist event November 14-15 and solo exhibition through November 30. “We are so honored and thrilled to have him come here,” says gallery owner Brenda Maser. “He is highly acclaimed and it’s a huge opportunity to meet him.” Maser Galleries, 5427 Walnut St., Shadyside. 412.687.0885. masergalleries.com. — Julia Nauer

Install a self-tanner shower in your master bath, switch up your bedroom by stationing an up-to-date remote-control bed, maximize your loft’s kitchen space with contemporary designs all now available at I Servizi, the urban living design showroom and services opening this season at SouthSide Works. Patty Brannon brings with her 17 years of experience with family business Copperleaf in Wexford, and decided to open I Servizi because “More people than ever before are geared toward city living, and I’ve always loved contemporary design and always wanted to do more of it.” I Servizi, SouthSide Works, South Side. 724.713.5300. iservizidesign.com. —L.H.

Outside All Year Round

Leading the way in moving the interiors to the exterior, Outside Inspirations in Wexford has been carrying high-end design-oriented outdoor furnishings for three years; this month the store celebrates its anniversary with its annual holiday party November 6 and a holiday open house November 7-9. The four days prior to the celebration, the store will close in order to transform itself into a “Winter Wonderland.” Tim Hollihan, who owns the store with his sister, Barb Hollihan, says that the store’s theme this season is “A Few of Our Favorite Things.” A key product line this fall includes designs by Michael Michaud, his botanically inspired Silver Seasons jewelry line and Table Top accessories. Modern Living

Tell your favorite interior designer: L Modern is adding 1,800 square feet of contemporary furnishings to the open-to-trade-only Pittsburgh Design Center, joining such vendors as Splash, PremierGarage, and Richard Lawrence Interiors. L Modern will carry lines including Nicole Miller by Excelsior, Della Robbia, Bontempi Casa, American Leather, and Creative Elegance. “It’s a nice mix of European and American-made pieces,” says L Modern’s Megan Carleton, interior designer and allied member of the American Society of Interior Designers. Jewelry:

Nice Ice

Diamonds are forever, a girl’s best friend, and Kanye West’s favorite gem. On November 22, they will also serve as a symbol of charity. Le Plus Exquis Diamond Gala will host five of the jewelers from the Clark Building and their very best sparklers for a fashion show at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association. Best of all, proceeds from the event and a portion of proceeds from the sale of diamonds at the event benefit Cribs for Kids, a charitable arm of SIDS of Pennsylvania: Get glamourous while doing some good. For tickets and more information, call SIDS of Pennsylvania at 412.322.5680, ext. 5. —L.H.

Soak Up The Sun

Drench yourself in California-sunshine- inspired designs from jeweler Gregg Ruth in a trunk show at Henne Jewelers on November 22. Ruth’s super-serious mega-diamond necklaces, earrings, and bracelets sparkle with major light, thanks to his unusual cuts, patented setting techniques, and use of fancy-colored diamonds — pink and yellow among them. Earth Angel

Embellish your personal style with an original piece of jewelry from Pamar Boutique and its Lila Penchansky trunk show November 7-8. The designer makes jewelry as a hobby when she’s not at her day-job as a physician. Her earthy pieces, made from beads that Penchansky picks up on her world travels, are unique in the truest sense of the word, says Pamar owner Mary Perkovich. “Our clothes are unique, and adding a piece of this jewelry will just complete the outfit and make it outstanding,” Perkovich says. Four Winds

North, East, South, West: Four Winds gallery adds four new jewelers to its established collection of artworks by Southwestern Native Americans. Kiowa artist Keri Ataumbi combines modern designs with organic forms to create unique “wearable art,” such as her three-dimensional link necklace. Working with a variety of mediums, Fritz Casuse, a Navajo artist, displays his craftsmanship by producing sculptural pieces with geometric balance. Maria Samora prefers not to sketch her designs beforehand, instead constructing pieces such as her lily pad necklace and seashell ring with an element of spontaneity, using gold, silver, and diamonds. Working with stainless steel and silver, Pat Pruitt creates bold, minimalist jewelry rooted in tradition with contemporary appeal. Four Winds Gallery, 5521 Walnut St., Shadyside. 412.682.5092.
